KNOW YOUR STATE’S MOLD CERTIFICATION LAWS

‍Out of all 50 states, only 10 currently have laws that regulate mold remediation in place. Only five out of these 10 have penalties for violating those laws, and only seven states require businesses be certified before offering remediation services. Texas, Louisiana, New York, Florida, and Kentucky have the most stringent laws surrounding the issue, but Texas is the only state in the U.S. that requires photographic evidence that the remediation was even conducted at all. It is also the only state that requires certification for each individual remediation worker.

SELECTING THE RIGHT COMPANY FOR YOU

‍While not all states require certification, it is likely that there will be companies in your area that will have certified mold specialists. If you know of a local company that you are interested in working with, ask them about their certifications and double-check to see if the company appears in the IICRC database before you contract it. Doing so may save you trouble down the road, and it could even help speed up the process of your mold insurance claim.
